March 8, 2010: Springboard PoC/PnL Fund Competition is now open.
The objectives of the Proof of Concept Fund Program are to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology and support its transfer and commercialization to Atlantic Canadian companies.
The Proof of Concept Fund will provide funding, up to an amount of twenty thousand Canadian Dollars ($20,000) per project, to advance promising technologies in order to attract early stage investment (e.g. national/provincial funding programs, angel investors, other capital) and/or to build the intellectual property (e.g., broadening patent claims or strengthening licensing opportunities) in anticipation of transferring the technology to a new or established company.
Applications for Patent & Legal (P&L) awards may be combined with Proof of Concept applications, however strong justification will be required to simultaneously fund both components.
Pilot Proof of Concept (Pilot PoC) funding, up to $5,000 per project, is intended to provide an opportunity to address earlier technologies that need additional work before they would be ready for the increased rigor and commercial justification required with a full PoC (or P&L) application. Pilot PoC applications that are successful will still have the opportunity to apply for a subsequent full PoC application with a request for funding up to $15,000. Note this initial Pilot PoC application may not be combined with a P&L application, as such early opportunities would not typically be ready for a robust IP strategy.
Funding for a Proof of Concept project is available for up to twelve (12) months (from the date the funds are received), and is non-renewable, except in the case of the Pilot PoC award that could apply for additional PoC funding later, with the proviso that any subsequent PoC award plus the initial Pilot PoC award for the same opportunity would not exceed a total of $20,000.
The Awards program assumes direct costs of the project application as per the standard member cost-sharing formula for the Springboard AIF project.
