New NSERC VP Research Grants & Scholarships

NSERC is very pleased to announce that Dr. Pierre Charest will become the new Vice-President of Research Grants and Scholarships. He replaces Isabelle Blain who begins her retirement on December 13.
Pierre currently holds the position of Associate Vice-President of Corporate Policy and Planning at NSERC and is a seasoned manager with extensive past experience at Health Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Canadian Forest Service. He has worked as a research scientist and has both policy and operational experience.
He came to NSERC from Health Canada, where he was Director General of the Science Policy Directorate. Prior to that, Pierre was Associate Vice-President of the Science Branch of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. He has also served as chair and member of several peer review committees for the three granting agencies, Canada Foundation for Innovation and Genome Canada.
Pierre will begin working in his new role as Vice-President of Research Grants and Scholarships on December 2. He looks forward to meeting with the community in the new year.
