Press Release: Springboard Atlantic Inc. Announces New Chairman And Directors

We are pleased to announce Brian Lowe as the new Chair of the Springboard Atlantic Board of Directors for a term of three years. He succeeds Dr. David Burns, who has served in the role since 2012. This election marks the first time Springboard has had an independent (non-academic) Chair since the inception of the organization in 2005. We are excited to have Brian working with our executive in this role. This is a significant step in our development as a regional organization. Brian has been a Board Member of Springboard since 2008 and is an active member of the start-up community across Atlantic Canada. Brian is a serial entrepreneur, investor, mentor, co-founder of First Angel Network, and Entrepreneur in residence at Dalhousie University.
Additional changes to the Board include Shelley Simpson, CEO & Co-founder of LED SGS Solutions Inc., Mary Butler, Vice President, College and Community Development at New Brunswick Community College, and Dale Keefe Vice-President Academic & Provost and professor of chemistry at Cape Breton University. All three bring years of experience and passion to our mission to enable and support commercialization and industry engagement between academics and the private sector.
Springboard is the commercialization network for Atlantic Canada with 18 post-secondary institutions including colleges and universities, working under one common mandate. Springboard is funded by the institutions and ACOA AIF funds to support the network of industry liaison and technology transfer officers in the region and to support industry engagement and commercial development.
In this last year alone, Springboard members have engaged in nearly 2000 projects, contracts and agreements with industry, held nearly 100 industry workshops and supported the creation of 12 new companies.
