UNB Named Startup Canada Regional Winner

Today, Startup Canada announced the Regional Award Winners and Runners-Up of the Startup Canada Awards. Winners will be celebrated and recognized during special grassroots events featuring Wolf Blass Wine Tasting Lounges and Fire Side Chats in communities across Canada throughout May.

The Startup Canada Awards can be likened to the Oscars for the Canadian entrepreneurship community – recognizing those that create the environment for startups to thrive – the mentors, incubators, institutions, companies and investors.

The Startup Canada Awards celebrate and distinguish the individuals, communities and institutions in Canada that have demonstrated innovation, excellence, outstanding achievement and impact in advancing Canadian entrepreneurship.

The objectives of the awards are to:

– Celebrate those working to advance entrepreneurship in Canada;
– Increase awareness of the importance of strengthening Canada’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and culture; and,
– Elevate the efforts and ambitions of the Canadian entrepreneurship community.

In its inaugural year, there were more than 260 applications and nominations from across Canada.

Nominees, Winners and Runners-Up will be recognized and celebrated at receptions across Canada and the Winners will be featured in keynote fireside chats. The names of both the Winners and Runners-Up from the Regional Awards will be pushed forward to the National Adjudication Committee and the National Winners will be celebrated at the Grand Finale taking place at the CN Tower in Toronto on June 12th.

The community can join in the celebration and conversation by attending one of the upcoming grassroots events in London, ON (May 8) hosted by HackerStudios and Startup London; Vancouver, BC (May 12) hosted by Hootsuite, Growlab and Launch Academy; Calgary, AB (May 15) hosted by the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, AcceleratorYYC and Startup Calgary; Halifax, NS (May 20) hosted by Dalhousie University; or Montreal, QC (May 22) hosted by the Notman House and using hashtag #StartupCanAwards on social media.

The Startup Canada Awards are proudly supported by Founding Sponsor Wolf Blass Wines and sponsors Microsoft, ScotiaBank and Waterloo-based startup, Decision.IO. The Build in Canada Innovation Program will also be present on site for all of the Awards and will be offering very special information sessions on selling to government.
